This week at Femevi, we carried out a cleaning and extraction operation of gray and black water on board the Arctic Sunrise ship, of the environmental organization Greenpeace, while it was docked at the Port of Vilanova i la Geltrú.
A technical intervention, discreet, but essential for safety and respect for the environment. And, as often happens with essential services, they are often invisible… but they have a direct and real impact.
The action consisted of the collection and safe management of wastewater generated on board —both black water (from toilets) and gray water (showers, sinks and kitchens)— through a hermetic suction system and transport in an approved tanker to our authorized plant for proper treatment.
These waters are stored in internal tanks that must be emptied and managed periodically, especially in vessels committed to sustainability such as those of Greenpeace.
How did we act from Femevi?
- Prior inspection of the access system to the tanks.
- Secure connection of the extraction hoses to the hermetic tank system.
- Controlled suction of wastewater, avoiding any spillage into the port.
- Transport in approved tanker to authorized treatment plant.
The entire operation was carried out with certified technical equipment and specialized personnel, following strict environmental safety protocols.
